OUR STORY

Whether on the river or at a fly-tying table, we create spaces where men can find purpose, camaraderie, and healing. Fishing is just the beginning—connection is the true catch.

A Letter from our founder:

I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety ever since I can remember, but after a career ending injury things started to spiral out of control. Playing college football at the University of Alabama was a dream come true and when I could no longer play I felt I had lost my community and my purpose. I trained my entire life to be strong, to be tough and to hide pain. I tried to brush off the emotional pain the same way I had always brushed off physical pain, thinking that it would improve in time.

The decade between the onset of symptoms and my first therapy session was a very dark period in my life. Like most men, I wasn’t aware that my symptoms were treatable. I wished I had access to a community where talking about mental illness was not taboo but instead was encouraged. This is why I created Fishing the Good Fight in 2019.

Since then, I have watched countless men come to retreats, open up, get vulnerable, support each other, and catch a few fish in the process.

If you’ve ever wondered about your own mental health and wanted to improve your quality of life, our organization can provide the tools, resources, and support to guide you along your wellness journey.

I hope to see you on the water soon.
