Fishing the Good Fight, Inc. (“Fishing the Good Fight,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Colorado registered nonprofit organization. We respect the privacy of our donors, program participants, volunteers, partners, and visitors to our website at www.fishingthegoodfight.org (the “Website”).
This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) describes the personal information we collect, how we use and share it, the choices available to you, and how you can contact us about our privacy practices. This Policy applies to information collected through our Website and in connection with our programs and fundraising activities (collectively, our “Programs”).

Health and Wellness Information. If you register for one of our retreat programs, we may collect health and mental health information through intake questionnaires. This information is collected to help us and our licensed therapy partners provide appropriate care during your participation. We treat this information as sensitive and apply additional safeguards to its handling, as described in Section 4 below.

Licensed Therapists and Program Partners. When you register for a retreat program, we share your intake information, including health and mental health questionnaire responses, with licensed therapists who provide services as part of our Programs. This information is transmitted using HIPAA-compliant processes. While Fishing the Good Fight is not itself a HIPAA-covered entity, the licensed therapists who receive this information are subject to HIPAA and their own professional confidentiality obligations.
Legal and Safety Disclosures. We may disclose your information if required by law, in response to lawful requests by public authorities (including to meet law enforcement requirements), to enforce our agreements, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fishing the Good Fight or others.
Organizational Transactions. In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, dissolution, or similar transaction involving all or a portion of our assets, personal information we hold may be among the assets transferred.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. Our intended retention periods are:
• Donation records: 7 years (to comply with IRS recordkeeping requirements)
• Program participant records: 7 years after last program participation
• Volunteer records: 7 years after last volunteer activity
• Email marketing data: Until you unsubscribe, plus a reasonable wind-down period
When personal information is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Communication Preferences
You may opt out of receiving promotional emails from us at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any email or by contacting us using the information in Section 12. Please note that even after you opt out of promotional communications, we may still send you transactional messages related to your donations or program participation.
6.2 Cookie Management
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block, delete, or receive warnings before cookies are stored. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our Website.
6.3 Global Privacy Control
We use best efforts to recognize Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) signals sent by your browser. When we detect a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising, to the extent applicable.
6.4 Access, Correction, and Deletion
You may contact us at any time to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. We will respond to such requests within a reasonable timeframe. In some cases, we may need to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or for legitimate recordkeeping purposes.
7. Colorado Privacy Rights
Fishing the Good Fight is a Colorado organization committed to the privacy principles reflected in the Colorado Privacy Act (“CPA”), C.R.S. § 6-1-1301 et seq. While we do not currently meet the CPA’s applicability thresholds, we voluntarily extend the following rights to Colorado residents:
• Right to Access: You may request confirmation of whether we are processing your personal data and obtain a copy of that data.
• Right to Correction: You may request that we correct inaccuracies in your personal data.
• Right to Deletion: You may request that we delete personal data we have collected from or about you.
• Right to Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal data in a portable, readily usable format.
• Right to Opt Out: You may opt out of the processing of your personal data for purposes of targeted advertising, sale of personal data, or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use personal data for targeted advertising or for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 12. We will respond to verified requests within 45 days. If we need additional time, we will notify you of the extension and the reason for it.
8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, “CCPA”), generally does not apply to nonprofit organizations. Fishing the Good Fight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is not organized or operated for the profit or financial benefit of shareholders or other owners.
Nevertheless, we are committed to transparency. If you are a California resident, we voluntarily provide you with the following information:
Categories of personal information collected: Identifiers (name, email, address, phone number); internet or electronic network activity information (IP address, browsing data); and health-related information collected through program intake questionnaires.
Purposes of collection: As described in Section 3 of this Policy.
Sale or sharing of personal information: We do not sell or share (as those terms are defined under the CCPA) your personal information.
Sensitive personal information: We collect health and mental health information from program participants through intake questionnaires, which may be considered sensitive personal information under the CCPA. This information is used solely to facilitate our Programs and is shared only with licensed therapists as described in Section 4.
Although the CCPA does not require us to do so, we will honor reasonable requests from California residents to access, correct, or delete their personal information. To make such a request, please contact us using the information in Section 12.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our Programs are limited to individuals who are 18 years of age or older. Our Website is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at the address below.
10. Data Security
We maintain administrative, organizational, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against accidental, unlawful, or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure, or use. Health and mental health information collected through our program intake process is transmitted using HIPAA-compliant methods. While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Third-Party Websites
Our Website may contain links to websites operated by third parties. This Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of any website or service that we do not own or control. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.
12. International Data Transfers
Fishing the Good Fight is based in the United States. If you access our Website or participate in our Programs from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country of residence. By using our Website or providing information to us, you acknowledge that your information will be processed in the United States.
13. Employment Data
We collect personal information from job applicants and employees for legitimate human resources purposes, including payroll administration, benefits management, performance management, compliance with governmental reporting requirements, and workplace health and safety. Employee data is handled in accordance with applicable employment laws and is subject to the protections described in this Policy.
